The Plano Piranhas is a recreational swim team of the City of Plano Parks and Recreation Department and is affiliated with the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (www.taaf.com). Practices are held on weekday mornings and afternoons during June and July.
The Piranhas swim team has grown from 140 swimmers in 2009 to over 300 swimmers from ages 4 to 17 in 2013. Many swimmers have improved their swimming ability.
Our team objectives are:
- To present every swimmer with a “taste” of competitive swimming.
- To teach, reiterate and instill excellent swimming technique for all swimmers.
- To encourage proper sportsmanship and teamwork.
- To give every swimmer incentives to improve their swimming skills.
The only required equipment is a one-piece swimsuit. Optional equipment includes goggles, team shirt and cap. Team t-shirts and caps are sold at the front desk during the summer season. Purchase of any team apparel is completely optional.
During the summer season, the Piranhas participate in weekly swim meets. The meets will be held either on Friday nights or Saturdays. They will compete with other cities in the North Texas area. The swim meets are optional for swimmers, though we encourage everyone to attend at least one. Swimmers will be able to select some of the events he/she will swim. All swimmers are encouraged to try different strokes and events throughout the season. The season will conclude with the Regional and State Competition in July.
